Behind The Beauty

This series of illustrations explores the themes of duality and unity, metamorphosis, and redefinition of cultural symbolism through the visual dialogue between the caterpillar and the butterfly.
I am particularly inspired by the Rasta Caterpillar, a symbol of my childhood in Martinique, recognizable by its red, black, and yellow stripes. Its iconic appearance strikes me as more compelling and visually impacting than the butterfly it becomes, thus reversing the usual narrative.
