On The Other Side - Voice of Chinnamasta

This installation titled On the Other Side is part of What Becomes group exhibition by QISSA and Opperclaes, that took place at Brutus Rotterdam.
This project is my attempt to understand but also express that shared feeling of (inter)connection experienced amongst individuals of the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora, despite a completely fragmented History.
Partly a sculptural work, partly an audio experience, this installation invites the viewer to seat on a plastic chair and grab one headphone, playing the voice of one Afro-Caribbean person (from Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Martinique, Suriname and more) telling us about their personal experience, their identity, their views on that shared connection, the gaps in their family trees and true origins, and even the “What ifs”.

Concertgebouw x ADE - SURINAME RISING

Poster design for Concertgebouw x Amsterdam Dance Event: “SURINAME RISING”, celebrating 50 years of Surinamese Independence through music.
Since this event represents a journey through time, I wanted the illustration to capture the blend between live surinamese traditional music and contemporary electronic sounds, connecting cultures and generations.
It was also a great opportunity to work with my friend @rosselchaslie, a talented Surinamese artist who contributed to
the concept and art direction, and shared precious knowledge about Surinamese culture.
